West Gorge Trail | Mill Creek MetroParks
While Mill Creek MetroParks has over 45 miles of trails to explore, arguably one of the best trails to hike in the winter is West Gorge Trail. The trail starts near the Suspension Bridge, (AKA the Cinderella Bridge), a beautiful and popular photo opportunity surrounded by snow-covered trees. West Gorge then travels towards Lanterman’s Mill, another Mill Creek landmark, decorated with festive wreaths for the holidays!

East Golf Hike & Bike Trail | Mill Creek MetroParks
Also located in Mill Creek MetroParks, the 1.5-mile East Golf Hike & Bike Trail runs from Route 224 to Shields Road. Its asphalt surface makes the trail easy to navigate for walkers, runners, and bikers in the winter. Parking lots are conveniently located at each end of the trail.

Berlin Lake Trail
The Berlin Lake Trail is a 2-mile crushed limestone rail-trail that takes hikers through wooded areas with lake views. This flat trail is great for families with young ones. Parking is available off US 224, 1.5 miles east of Deerfield Circle, as well as at the south trail entrance off Kirkbride Road.

Lake Milton Trail
If there’s one thing we love most about Lake Milton, it’s the sunsets. Arrive early to hike the Lake Milton Trail, a family-friendly out-and-back path that winds through trees and terrain. Afterwards, hang around the lake to catch beautiful sunset views over the water.
Shelter House Trail | Poland Municipal Forest
With 265 acres of natural beauty, Poland Municipal Forest has a variety of fun trails to choose from. This winter, hike the Shelter House Trail for a chance to walk across the newly rebuilt Mauthe Bridge.
This winter, get out and explore the wintry trails in Youngstown! While on your hike, make sure to abide by the park and state safety guidelines. If you’re not feeling well, stay home and research the trails until you’re feeling better!
