Explore a Local Park

@emilyanne1o3o_austintownparkFall is officially here and what better time to grab your hiking boots and go outside and enjoy the trails under the orange and yellow leaves. Not sure where to go? Mill Creek MetroParks has a complete map of their hiking trails with beautiful fall foliage to see on the way. Their Fall Bucket List Challenge gives great ideas for enjoying Mill Creek MetroParks this fall! You can take pictures at Lanterman’s Mill and the Suspension Bridge, find your way out of the corn maze at the MetroParks Farm, or stroll through beautiful Fellows Riverside Gardens. Boardman Park is having their Great Pumpkin Carve Out Contest October 22-24. The pumpkins will be on display at the park and there is also a Family Fall Fest planned for October 23. From 5-8pm, there will be games, bouncers, live music, straw mazes and more.

Hit the Links

@justinjosephedwards_BoardmanParkThere’s no better place to take in some of the beautiful fall scenery than at one of the Youngstown area’s golf courses. Mill Creek Golf Course features two 18-hole courses. Both courses are par 70 with four sets of tees. Mill Creek Golf Course is a great course to challenge golfers at all levels. The Links at Firestone Farms located in Columbiana offers a full sized driving range, a short game area and a large putting green to freshen up your golf skills. After your round, check out the new Riser Tavern on The Links. Enjoy great food and drinks on their patio. Knoll Run is a tree-lined, challenging, par 72 course. Enjoy the onsite restaurant after you’ve completed your round. Fall means more comfortable golfing weather and fewer crowds. Some courses offer lower fall rates. So now is the perfect time for avid golfers to get out and hit the green! If traditional golf isn’t your thing, try one of our many disc golf courses located at the MetroParks Farm, Boardman Park, Austintown Township Park, Wick Park, Mauthe Park, and The Osprey Disc Golf Course in Lake Milton State Park.

Run a Race

@nickcarltonphotography_millcreekbridgePlenty of races are going to be taking place throughout Youngstown within the upcoming month. Local races are a great way to support your local community and bring a variety of runners from the surrounding areas. The Youngstown Peace Race taking place on Sunday, October 17, 2021 is a great way to get your kids into the spirit of running a marathon with their 400-meter Kids Fun Run, and includes a 2-mile Run/Walk and 10K Run. The Youngstown Marathon is a Boston Qualifier. The course will take you through scenic Mill Creek Park and loop through downtown Youngstown and Youngstown State University with full and half marathons and a 5K. The beauty of the park will definitely help you push through the race! The Phantom 4-miler is a 4-mile run or walk at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Don’t forget to show up in costume and enjoy the run!

Catch a Game

@morgansantangelo_(YSU)2Classes are back in session and that means football! There are plenty of opportunities to catch your favorite team and support your favorite players. For all Youngstown State University football home games, there is a huge tailgate party next to Stambaugh Stadium to get your team spirit started. YSU never disappoints when it comes to their tailgating and support for their local players. There are home games on October 9 – vs. Missouri State (YSU Homecoming); October 30 – vs. South Dakota State; and November 13 – vs. North Dakota State. Your local high school teams are back at it with their home and away games representing their school and getting their community excited to watch football. Check out your local football team schedules to find your next game!
