Tips to Find the Best Sip: Youngstown, Ohio’s Local Wineries

Youngstown, Ohio might not necessarily be the first place you think of when it comes to wine — but that’s about to change, because we’ve got some amazing local wineries that are putting Mahoning County on the map! 

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing evening with a glass of wine in hand, or want to meet up with friends to share some fantastic food and lively conversation, we’ve got all the info on where you should go!

In case you missed it, the New York International Wine Competition just named L’uva Bella Winery Ohio Winery of the Year

Located in Lowellville, just a few miles east from the center of Boardman, L’uva Bella has been producing award-winning wines since 2006, using grape varietals from growers all over the country. 

In addition to their wine, visitors can enjoy a meal at “The Bistro,” L’uva Bella’s restaurant, led by executive chef, Anthony Scacchetti. Every dish, from the Asian breaded cauliflower to the braised short rib has a suggested wine pairing, so you’ll need to plan enough visits to try them all! 

L’uva Bella’s Bistro is open Thursdays 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. 

Halliday’s Winery

Halliday’s Winery is situated just off the north shore of Lake Milton and carries the name of Jesse Halliday, who was an early settler and entrepreneur in Mahoning County. To further honor local history, Halliday’s offers a line of signature wines that connects with various aspects of the area. 

Pair a wine with an appetizer or flatbread from their menu, or just enjoy a glass of cabernet while you sit on the patio and take in the peaceful surroundings. There’s live music every weekend at Halliday’s, so check their events calendar to see what’s happening! You can also reserve the winery for private parties and events. 

Halliday’s is open Tuesdays-Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Check their website for seasonal hours. 

Mastropietro Winery

Mastropietro Winery was established in 2005, making it the first winery in Mahoning County

Located on Ellsworth Rd., situated on 14 acres of land in Berlin Center near Canfield, the idyllic setting makes Mastropietro Winery perfect for quiet wine tasting getaways; a gazebo and two pavilions as well as a banquet room and tasting room are great locations for weddings and social events, too.

You can also visit the Winery’s attached sports bar on game days or play pool while enjoying some snacks and sandwiches. The sports bar is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 12 p.m to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. 

Mastropietro Winery is open Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. (except January and February), Fridays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. 

The Vineyards at Pine Lake

The Vineyards at Pine Lake, located just north of Columbiana, was established in 2016 by the Glista family who tends to over 3,500 grapevines used to produce their Ohio wines (not to mention the hop fields harvested for the beers that are brewed there, too). The Vineyards was recently honored with the 2022 Ohio Gewurztraminer Winery of the Year Award at the prestigious New York International Wine Competition. 

Make sure you try an entree and housemade dessert from the Vineyards’ Tasting Room, the winery’s on-site restaurant that features breathtaking elevated views of Pine Lake. Need a large space? Call them to book your gathering at the Event Center at Pine Lake, which has the capacity for up to 350 guests. 

Lake Milton Brewery

We know it’s called Lake Milton Brewery, but they recently added winemaking to their repertoire! 

Located in the heart of Lake Milton, Lake Milton Brewery allows guests to bring their own food while also playing host to some of the area’s most beloved food trucks. 

Check the Brewery’s Facebook page to find out when food trucks are scheduled while also staying up-to-date on live music, cornhole tournaments, and more! Lake Milton Brewery is open Fridays from 4 p.m to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Wining and Dining Around Youngstown
