At-Home Activities

At-Home Activities

This holiday season, you’re likely spending a lot more time at home and looking for new activities to do with your family. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the holidays from home with your family. Start some new traditions!

Watch a Holiday Favorite with the Family

@megnroze6688_easystreetGrab a blanket and relax on the couch with a show the whole family will enjoy. This year, Easy Street Productions is bringing their Christmas Spectacular to television! In case you missed the premiere, encore broadcasts of the Miracle on Easy Street TV Christmas Special will air Saturday, December 19 at 8pm on WBCB, and Christmas Day, at 12pm on WFMJ & at 1pm on WBCB. Sing and dance along to all your holiday favorites with brand new performances, as well as a look back on some of their past performances.

You can also head on over to the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s YouTube Channel to explore Youngstown’s local history and stories with their monthly lunchtime program.

Try a Virtually Guided Project with the Kids

@martinomotorsports_ohwowKeeping the kids occupied extends way beyond the virtual (or in-person) classroom. Keep their minds active and interested with OH WOW!’s live videos, featuring experiments made by Mr. Ralf. Each month, you can also order a STEM SAK Bundle that contains four new projects, complete with all the materials and instructions. Or, kids can enjoy the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Hands on History at-home activities. Each Sunday through January 3, they will feature favorite children’s books and post example images and step-by-step instructions of crafts that can be done with simple household items. The Youngstown Public Library is also offering virtual programs for kids, with topics covering everything from cooking and stories to novel discussion and 3D design. You can view the library’s Virtual Programming Events Calendar here.

Experiment in the Kitchen

@the_advantage_team_onehotcookieWhether it’s trying something new in the kitchen, decorating cookies or just sending a gift to a loved one, a little time in the kitchen can illustrate just how much you care. Not a great baker? No problem. Order a holiday cookie decorating kit from One Hot Cookie, complete with cut-out cookies, icing and decorations – all you need is a little creativity to put it all together! Their Gingerbread House Kit includes a fully constructed house which leaves you to do the fun part – decorating!

Or, get hip with the newest food craze: hot chocolate bombs! N2 by DaVill has a ton of flavors to try on a cold night inside. Just pour hot milk over the chocolate bomb and enjoy a unique cup of hot chocolate while you’re getting cozy on the couch. Visit our Sweet Treats page for an extensive list of bakeries where you can order cookies, pies or other treats.

Drive-Thru Holiday Light Displays

Enjoy a holiday drive-thru light display at Boardman Park and marvel at the beautiful lights from the safety of your car. It’s free and is open from 5pm-10pm each night through January 10. Or, check out these local holiday light displays. On your way, pick up some Handel’s ice cream for the family. Try their holiday flavors such as White Christmas, Peppermint Bark, and Peppermint Stick.

As we keep adapting to uncertain and changing times, make sure you’re doing everything you can for yourself and your family to find different activities you can do together, while staying safe at home. For more ways to love this holiday season in Youngstown & Mahoning County, visit our website.
